Adopt a Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Gus is a large and handsome 6 year old yellow lab mix. Gus absolutely loves going for walks and does well on leash once he is out of his kennel. He is phenomenal at playing fetch, it is his favorite activity by far. Gus has a lot of energy but once he has been played with or walked he very obediently goes back in his kennel to cool down and settle in before the next round of play. Gus can be particular about his choice in doggie friends, he usually likes mostly female dogs. Dog parks would not be recommended. Cats are a no-go as he would most likely chase them. With people he can be selective also, but if he likes you, he loves you! He has reacted poorly to young children so he may do better in a home with teenage and up, or as an only child.  Gus will need an experienced dog person, who can keep him on task and give him structure. Gus may have some inborn hunting skills also, we haven't tried him but we don't doubt he would enjoy that, we can also see him as a dock-dog. He is currently on medication for some anxiety, and to help him focus his energies. Gus is extremely smart, he knows the commands sit, stay, wait, and down. He is very treat motivated and also likes praise and affection as a reward. Gus is a wonderful fellow who deserves a home with an owner who is willing to give him guidelines, exercise, and mostly love. Adoption Fee: $225 Adoption fees shall not be considered purchase prices, but donations to help defray vet costs and related expenses to help us continue our rescue efforts. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (if over 2 years old), vaccinated, dewormed, flea and tick treated, microchipped and more before adoption. Our adoption policies include: Application, Vet Reference, Landlord approval & Criminal  Background Check. We do not do same day adoptions.
